Monotype is a way of making a single unique print rather than a series. Generating prints in this way is exciting, liberating and addictive, and there is always an element of surprise, which often enhances the overall mood or atmosphere of the finished print.

I love florals having spent many years painting them in my previous incarnation as a printed textile designer. Semi-abstract and impressionistic or highly representational, they are a great opportunity to play with colour and form.

Playing with traditional media in new combinations is also an important part of my process. Improvising and experimenting with abstraction helps build a visual vocabulary which allows me to refine skills of looseness and gesture, fluidity and control.
